Reaching Out

Such a common thing that not enough of us do. If we are struggling in one area or another we usually know someone who can help us directly or at least point us in the right direction but not enough take advantage of our resources.

And by taking advantage of I do not mean in a way that degrades the other person in any way shape or form I am referring to using the resources at your disposal in a way that if they were to ask you do something for them you wouldn’t hesitate to help out.

Relationships that are one way where one person is always helping the other never end well unless it is a mentorship type relationship. But in a working relationship sense if one person is getting all the other benefits of the relationship and the other person is getting nothing in return then there has to be a point where that relationship ends.

From my early days as working as an internet researcher as a part time job through college I have learned an invaluable skill of finding huge amounts of information on people if it is there to be found. It has served me in ways I never thought about before, I have been able to reach out to I would have otherwise never have been able to find.

After networking with some amazing people after a recent course I have taken I have decided to reach out on a bigger scale. Researching people with similar interests and passions. I have heard myself saying a lot lately that “I wish I could just walk into someone at a pub and talk this SEO and PPC jargon with someone that gets it”. I started to realise that the only reason that wasn’t a reality was because I wasn’t reaching out to the right people.

So I started reaching out to people I could network with any while the ones I was really interested in catching up with hasn’t eventuated yet I have made some great connections already. I know if I want to surround myself with people that stimulate me mentally I am not going to just find them around the corner. I have to go out and find them.

And when I talk about being stimulated mentally I am not talking about the Einstein’s of the world I mean people who are interested in the same are as what I am. If you want to accelerate in any area you need to be pushed by people that also want to accelerate in that area.

Look at it this way, there was always that one person you competed against in high school, whether it was a spoken rivalry or not didn’t matter but mental you would compare yourself to them. The comparisons led you to work a lot harder on that particular subject to try and excel the get a better grade than your counterpart. The same can be applied to wanting to excel in any aspect of life, you either gain motivation from someone else who has been there before or put yourself up against someone who it wanting to achieve what you want to achieve before you.

I love a good friendly rivalry and it’s something I want more of in my life at the moment, I want people around me to compete against and give me that drive to achieve what I have set my goals on. And while I can do it without these people I have no doubt at all it would speed up the process. I just need to master networking with the right people and never being afraid of reaching out.

There has been plenty of times I have reached out to an author of an article or someone I found in my researches I have never heard back from and that is just part of the game sometimes as well. Unless there is an undeniable reason to get in contact with the person you are trying to get in contact with you may have to think outside the box or take a different approach otherwise don’t dwell on it to much.

Go out today and network with as many people as you can and restimulate that brain of yours.
