Another day, another realisation. Before you even begin to read this post I want you to reflect on your own situation. Think of a big goal you have, something you want to achieve, how long you’ve had this goal and the steps you have put in place to reach it. If you do have to-do-lists how often do you see that goal on your to-do-list? How often do you sit on the couch thinking about what needs to be done instead of just getting off your ass and getting it done.
I am sick of seeing the same big ticket items on my to-do-list and today I am going to start doing something about it. I am going to start having big ticket days, days that I can purely dedicate to working towards getting those larger goals achieved.
What do I mean by small wins? Smalls wins are those items on your to do list that are simple to knock off. Like sending someone an email, writing up a report, cleaning the car. Simple tasks that don’t take much time at all.
These are easy to knock off but it is often at the expense at the bigger ticket items. Those long term goals always feel so distant that the state of mind goes into thinking, ‘ohh I’ll just add it to tomorrows to do list’ and the cycle repeats. Trust me if you don’t make time for it, it repeats over and over again.
The big ticket item that I really want to start giving a lot of my time going forward is the Competition Site that I launched in 2012, it came down in 2013 and I have been planning its relaunch ever since. Since 2000 and freaking 13! Makes me feel sick just writing that. I got complacent that’s all there is to it. You will never hear me say ‘ohh I didn’t have time to do that’ telling someone you don’t have time to do something is a bullshit excuse. There is always time to do everything you just need to make time. What they are really saying if they drool out that excuse is not that they didn’t have enough time, they are telling you it was never a high enough priority to make time for it.
Now so we are clear on just when not having time is an excuse. If you are trying to book an appointment with someone and you set the limitations of a 3 hour window and they tell you they don’t have time to see you, don’t go thinking it is a bullshit excuse. This is perfectly legitimate. I am strictly referring to the situations where you have had more than enough time to get something done but instead you preferred to sit on the couch, watch a movie or just procrastinate about it the whole time while you kept telling yourself ‘I don’t have time’.
I am making my Tuesday’s Big Ticket Tuesday. It will involve 6am starts to get ahead on the day. What else is there to do at 6am other than what forced you to get up? It is a perfect way to start the day. I also have to factor in work and my daily blog but as for any small wins they won’t be seen on Tuesday.
Constant small wins can often be the underlying reason for the demise of our big tickets items. We feel like we are achieving a lot but in reality we aren’t making any inroads on our ultimate goals. I want to see everyone achieve their goals. I love surrounding myself with motivated people and people with incredible drive.
